GLENDALE, Ariz. — Safety Julius Wood left the Dallas Cowboys‘ 34-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the third quarter with a concussion.
There is no timetable.
Wood was on the field for 46 defensive snaps, 71% of the Dallas total and the third-highest figure on the defense. His last recorded play came with 10:02 left in the third quarter, when he combined with Isaiah Land on a tackle of Evan Hull at the Dallas 4 during Arizona’s only touchdown drive.
He finished with six tackles, one solo and five assisted, second on the team behind Alijah Clark‘s eight. Four of the six came in the first half. He also played seven special teams snaps.
The Cowboys play the New Orleans Saints on Friday and cut to 53 players after that game.
Where Julius Wood Stood Before Saturday
Dallas signed Wood as an undrafted free agent out of East Carolina in 2024, then cut him at the end of that preseason. Tennessee claimed him off waivers and he played nine games there as a rookie. Last summer the Titans released him. In October, Dallas brought him back to the practice squad.
Caleb Downs, Jalen Thompson, P.J. Locke, Malik Hooker, and Markquese Bell were all among the players Dallas held out in Glendale. Clark played 49 snaps. Wood played 46.
Curtis Robinson Returned
Linebacker Curtis Robinson was injured on the first snap of the third quarter, when he and Denzel Withers tackled Hull for a 3-yard gain at the Arizona 39. The gamebook logged him back in the game six plays later, with 12:41 remaining in the quarter.
Robinson made three tackles on 27 defensive snaps. On special teams he played nine, with a tackle and an assist.
Two Players Who Played Through Something
Jaydon Blue did not practice at any point during the week. He carried 15 times for 75 yards, more than anyone in the game.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Blue is feeling the competition in a deep running back room.
“We wanted to see him. He’s been banged up a little bit. He’s had a shoulder. And we wanted to see how he would do,” Schottenheimer said. “But I thought he ran hard. And we wanted to lean on him early in the third quarter and see how he did. But all in all, I thought he ran well. Had some really nice runs, a couple 11, 12 yards. I thought they were really good. But he ran physically, which I think is important.”
Guard Trevor Keegan was banged up during practice this week. He started at left guard and played 53 offensive snaps.
Arizona
Safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson left late in the first quarter with a rib injury, according to The Associated Press. He was hurt on the play he was flagged 15 yards for unnecessary roughness, a hit on tight end Zack Kuntz on second-and-13 at the Dallas 32. The penalty put Dallas at its own 47, and Joe Milton III threw a 53-yard touchdown on the next snap.
Cornerback Kalen King was injured on a fourth-quarter run by Israel Abanikanda that gained 9 yards.
The Cowboys host the Saints at 7 p.m. CT on Friday at AT&T Stadium. The game airs on CBS 11 and ESPN.
