FRISCO, Texas — Jerry Jones said Tuesday that his “nothing more dangerous than an old man with money” line after Sunday’s win over Washington was about football, and that he would put money into improving the Dallas Cowboys right now. The Cowboys owner and general manager made his weekly appearance on Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan two days after a 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium.
Jones opened his postgame availability Sunday with the line and called it his quote for the day. On Tuesday, he said the comment was “very much” made in a football context, and that he would not have been referring to anything else in front of that audience.
“I said it out of context, but I’m glad I said it,” Jones said. “We were just really feeling so good about our win. And we just were feeling our oats. We’re feeling our oats.”
“But my point, I guess what it was an expression of, it’s good. It’s good. We have the makings of a team here that I’m that optimistic about and would work to improve it in a minute right now financially,” Jones continued.
Jerry Jones Open To Improving Dallas Cowboys Roster After Week 2 Win
Last Friday on the K&C Masterpiece, Jones went on record that Dallas would improve on the way it played in a 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sept. 13. Against Washington, Dallas punted once, went 3-of-4 in the red zone, and converted 7 of 11 third downs.
“Let me just say, don’t do that again. Don’t bet the house,” Jones said. “There was a whole bunch of it just had to be, just wanted to be. We got to have it, those kinds of things. But really, when you looked up, this team needs those stepping stones. It needs those victories early. And that was a very important win for us.”
Dallas sent a 2027 first-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick to the New York Jets for Quinnen Williams at last season’s trade deadline. The Cowboys traded for edge rusher Rashan Gary in March and offensive tackle Broderick Jones on Aug. 29. On Sept. 11, Jones said he would put more of the team’s future resources into this season’s roster, depending on what becomes available. The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 10, and Jones said Tuesday that the opportunity to improve is always there.
“I felt so good about where we were after the game and what we can build on here that encourages me to look for all ways to make this year something special,” Jones explained.
Jerry Jones Compares Jeff Bezos To Henry Ford And Thomas Edison
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos watched Sunday’s game with Jones at AT&T Stadium. Jones’ household orders from Amazon daily, he said, and he pays the bills on a lot of those orders.
“In my mind, he’s right there with Henry Ford. He’s there with Thomas Edison. I’m dead serious,” Jones said. “And, boy, he’s such an easy guy to be around, good to visit with. And it was wonderful. I’d met him and knew him to some degree. And it was really great to have him at the ballgame and have him involved.”
“His beautiful wife that loves it. And, of course, both of them have been in space,” Jones added.
Bezos flew on Blue Origin’s first crewed New Shepard flight in July 2021. His wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, flew on a New Shepard mission in April 2025.
Dallas is 1-1 and plays the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Kickoff is 3:25 p.m. CT on CBS.
