FRISCO, Texas — Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Dak Prescott is a better quarterback today than he has ever been, two days after Prescott passed Tony Romo for the most touchdown passes in Dallas Cowboys history. The Cowboys owner and general manager made his weekly appearance on Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan after Sunday’s 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium.
Prescott went 26-of-31 passing for 279 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions against Washington. His 24-yard touchdown to CeeDee Lamb with 3:07 left was the 249th of his career, one more than Romo threw for Dallas.
“I think that he’s the poster child of any players I’ve been around of what you can do to self-improve, and he’s a product of his own work ethic. He’s a product of his focus on getting better every detail of his game,” Jones said. “I’m happy to say that he is a better quarterback today than he’s ever been, and he’s playing a position that, even though you might have a little diminished physical skills, it’s a position that if you approach it the way he’s approached his career, you will be a better player. I’m glad we’ve got him.”
“His record indicates the best in an overall view. That can still be debatable, but it is debatable because how he got where he is, to me, a noteworthy leg on his chair of being the best,” Jones continued. “And he could be the best out there as far as I’m concerned.”

Prescott is 33 and in his 11th season. Romo threw 248 touchdown passes for Dallas and never reached an NFC Championship Game.
“Because he’s still playing, and he’s still playing at an extremely high level, gives us our best chance. And so we still have the opportunity to get him championships,” Jones explained. “We don’t, unfortunately, with Tony. And it is one of my biggest regrets, if not my biggest, not to have a Super Bowl win with Tony.”

Lamb caught 8 passes for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns Sunday, and he has caught 37 of Prescott’s 249 touchdown passes. George Pickens had 6 catches for 40 yards. Jake Ferguson caught 4 passes for 43 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the fourth quarter, a 25-yard run by Javonte Williams was wiped out by a holding penalty on Pickens.
“I think it’s out there. I think he’s benefiting from George Pickens being out there. And so it is exciting. Both of those guys and our tight ends had a really good day and will continue to have that,” Jones said. “We can get that running game going. We’d have had better stats if we could have gone that nice run that we had that got called back, but still, that’s the game. But we’re going to get better there. We’ve got help on the way with Smith coming back, but the good news is that the guys that are out there playing are getting better.”
“So I’ve gone all the way from Lamb down to the interior. But I’m very encouraged. We have not overestimated what we’re capable of doing on offense. We have not,” Jones added. “And we are maybe a little optimistic because of all the changes of how fast we could improve the defense, but we have not undershot or overshot our expectations. We’re better defensively, and we’re going to get better.”
