OXNARD, Calif. — BT Jordan does not coach a position group. He is the Dallas Cowboys‘ pass rush consultant, and owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Monday that Jordan spent the past year pushing Dallas toward Von Miller.
Jordan trains pass rushers for a living. Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby are among his clients. So is Miller.
“You get someone that’s been there and done that,” Jones said, per the team’s website. “He trains with our consulting trainer. And boy, he had been telling us for all this past year, boy, if we could get him. He knew firsthand because he works with him all the time and knew that he could help us. And of course, that trainer is working with all of our guys. We feel real good.
“We’ve really been communicating with him for a lot of weeks here,” Jones continued. “He couldn’t say enough good things about what kind of shape he’s in, how much quickness he has, how he thought he could really help us.”
Garrett set the NFL single-season record with 23 sacks in 2025 and has won Defensive Player of the Year twice. Crosby has 69.5 career sacks and has made five straight Pro Bowls.
Everybody In The Building Teaches It The Same Way
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer made the same point from a different direction Monday. Jordan works alongside Dallas outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe, and Schottenheimer said the two teach the position identically.
“The big thing to be said there is they all believe the same stuff,” Schottenheimer explained. “If you have a guy that comes in that believes in rushing the passer this way or rushing the passer that way, and he’s like, don’t listen to what he says. Here’s the way you need to do it.
“Von has got his experiences, but he’s been trained by BT Jordan,” Schottenheimer detailed. “Chidera and BT have been working together for a long time. Chidera is an expert at it as well. You can see it with the way some of our guys are playing on the edges. We forced Seattle into situations late in the game where they had to use double chippers.”
What It Means To A Second-Year Player
Donovan Ezeiruaku said the overlap is what makes it useful to a young player. Dallas took him 44th overall in 2025 out of Boston College, where he won the Ted Hendricks Award and was the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He had 2 sacks and 40 tackles as a rookie.
“It helps a lot,” Ezeiruaku said. “Everyone in the same corner, so the same coaching points. And even to that point, they’ll even get more detailed. And Von might say certain things that he’s learned over the past few years. And Rashan, RG, might say the same thing. And it’ll just help me develop as a pass rusher.”
Ezeiruaku said he first met Miller last year after moving to Dallas, and that the two talked for about 45 minutes. Miller has been working out at The Star.
What Jordan Was Vouching For
Miller turned 37 in March and had 9 sacks for the Washington Commanders last season, playing 420 defensive snaps across all 17 games with three starts. He has 138.5 career sacks in 203 games, the most among active players, along with 607 combined tackles, 27 forced fumbles, and 271 quarterback hits.
He has not played since Jan. 4, the final game of Washington’s season.
Dallas agreed to terms Sunday night on a one-year deal worth $5.5 million that can reach $7.5 million, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Adam Schefter of ESPN first reported the agreement. The Cowboys waived wide receiver Traeshon Holden on Monday to open the roster spot.
The Room Jordan Works With
Jordan also works with Rashan Gary, Malachi Lawrence, Ezeiruaku, James Houston, Sam Williams, Marist Liufau, Tyrus Wheat, and Isaiah Land.
Defensive coordinator Christian Parker described the group in June as young and hungry.
“I think the job that Marcus Dixon and Chidera Uzo-Diribe, Demeitre Brim, and BT Jordan have done with that group has been really good,” Parker said. “I think we’re going to have the play style that we want. Those guys want to be held accountable.”
Dallas allowed 511 points last season, most in the NFL, and finished 30th in yards allowed. The Cowboys rebuilt the pass rush around Gary, acquired by trade this offseason, and Lawrence, the 23rd overall pick in April.
Houston had a sack in the preseason opener at Seattle, Land had one on fourth down at the Dallas 5, and Wheat split another with Reddy Steward. Dallas held the Seattle Seahawks to 49 net passing yards in a 17-7 win.
Miller was expected in Oxnard on Monday night. Dallas hosts the New Orleans Saints for a joint practice Tuesday, the last open practice in California, and plays at the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday at 9 p.m. CT on NFL Network.
