Dallas Cowboys Tight End Jake Ferguson Questionable To Return With Knee Injury Against Indianapolis Colts

INDIANAPOLIS — Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson hurt his knee in the third quarter Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium and is questionable to return against the Indianapolis Colts.
Tommy Yarrish of the Cowboys’ official site reported the designation during the third quarter. Dallas led 20-17 entering the fourth quarter.
With 14:13 left in the second quarter, Ferguson caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott that gave Dallas a 10-7 lead after the extra point. The score was his fourth touchdown catch of the season. Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported later in the first half that Ferguson had gone to the medical tent, and he was back on the field by the third quarter.
Jake Ferguson Entered Sunday Questionable With Low Ankle Sprain
Ferguson came into the game listed as questionable with a low ankle sprain from Dallas’ 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 1. He got hurt on the Cowboys’ first possession that day and played 4 offensive snaps before he was ruled out.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said the next day that Ferguson’s tests came back clean and that the tight end had a chance to play at Indianapolis. Ferguson did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. On Friday, he was a limited participant.
When Ferguson went out against Arizona, Brevyn Spann-Ford played 65 offensive snaps at tight end and caught 4 of his 5 targets for 31 yards. The Cowboys made Luke Schoonmaker inactive Sunday after he was limited in practice all week with a groin injury. Receivers George Pickens (hamstring) and KaVontae Turpin (ribs) were inactive as well.
Ferguson Earned Second Pro Bowl Nod Last Season
Sunday was Ferguson’s ninth game of the season, and he had not missed one. He came in with 17 catches on 25 targets for 115 yards and 3 touchdowns. He had played 58.2% of the Cowboys’ offensive snaps before Sunday.
Ferguson’s 82 catches in 2025 made him the second tight end in Cowboys history with more than 80 in a season. He finished that year with 600 yards, and his 8 touchdown catches fell one short of the franchise record for the position.
The NFL added Ferguson to the NFC Pro Bowl roster as an injury replacement in January. It was the second Pro Bowl of his career, after he made the 2023 team. Six months before that, at training camp in Oxnard, California, Ferguson signed a four-year extension worth up to $52 million that keeps him under contract through the 2029 season.
Dallas came into Sunday 3-5 after losing three of its previous four games, and its next game is Nov. 15 against the San Francisco 49ers at AT&T Stadium, with kickoff at 3:25 p.m. CT.
