EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — One of the two wide receivers the New York Giants added for Sunday night’s opener against the Dallas Cowboys is on the 53-man roster past the game. The other is not.
New York elevated Braxton Berrios from the practice squad on Saturday and signed Dalen Cambre to the 53-man roster, according to the team’s transaction announcement. Linebacker Malik Harrison was elevated as well. Berrios and Harrison revert to the practice squad after the game. Cambre does not.
Cambre needed no corresponding move. The Giants released wide receiver Darius Slayton on Sept. 7. That spot sat open all week, leaving New York at 52 players.
Malik Nabers is questionable with a knee injury. He was the only Giant given a game designation on the final injury report of the week, and he practiced in full Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reported that the Berrios elevation was a special teams decision. Duggan wrote that New York planned to make it whether Nabers played or not. The more significant development, he added, would be a second receiver elevated from the practice squad. What New York did instead was sign Cambre to the active roster.
Malik Nabers Holds The Decision
The coaching staff and training staff have left the call to Nabers, CBS Sports reported. Nabers said Thursday that three full practices would not by itself put him on the field Sunday.
“I wouldn’t want anyone to tell me I’m going to be on a pitch count, because at the end of the day, it’s my career and it’s my body,” Nabers said. “If a pitch count is in the conversation, then I will lead that conversation. That decision would be on me.”
Nabers gave reporters no timetable on Friday for when he would know.
“I’ll let God tell me,” Nabers said. “Keeping my faith. He’ll let me know and I’ll let me know when it’s time.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning that the Giants still had not gotten an answer from Nabers and described his status as murky at best.
Nabers tore an ACL in Week 4 of the 2025 season. New York placed him on injured reserve on Sept. 29, 2025, and activated him from the list on Feb. 15, 2026. He had a cleanup procedure on the knee in April. He was not placed on the physically unable to perform list during training camp.
What Braxton Berrios And Dalen Cambre Give New York
Berrios is expected to handle punt returns against Dallas. He signed with the Giants on June 1, was released Aug. 30 during final cuts, and re-signed to the practice squad on Sept. 2.
Over 91 games, Berrios has 140 receptions for 1,360 yards and 6 touchdowns. He was a first-team All-Pro returner in 2021 and has 3,395 career return yards. In four games for the Houston Texans last season he caught 6 passes for 37 yards.
Cambre signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana on May 9, 2025. Pro Football Reference credits him with 7 career games. He was released on Aug. 31 and re-signed to the practice squad on Sept. 2, and his work in New York has been on special teams.
Harrison spent five seasons in Baltimore under Giants coach John Harbaugh. He played last season in Pittsburgh. New York signed him to the practice squad in early September. Across 87 career games he has 215 tackles and 2.0 sacks.
The Giants release their inactive list at roughly 5:50 p.m. CT, 90 minutes before kickoff. Kickoff at MetLife Stadium is 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock.
