ARLINGTON, Texas — Tyler Goodson is inactive for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday against the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium, five days after the team signed him off the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.
Dallas made the move on Sept. 15 and waived Israel Abanikanda to open the roster spot.
The Cowboys have had to navigate running back depth since Malik Davis suffered a season-ending hip injury in practice on Sept. 11.
After Davis’ injury, Abanikanda was signed to the 53-man roster off the practice squad that Saturday and dressed the following night at the New York Giants.
Tyler Goodson Has 264 Rushing Yards In Four NFL Seasons
Goodson has 54 carries for 264 yards and 1 touchdown in 33 career games, with 1 start. He has added 19 receptions for 103 yards and 1 touchdown.
Three of his four seasons came with Indianapolis. He appeared in 11 games there last season and ran 9 times for 24 yards. He caught 2 passes for 8 yards, returned 2 kickoffs for 60 yards, and made 8 special-teams tackles.
Green Bay signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and kept him on the practice squad that season. Atlanta signed him to its practice squad this summer.
Emari Demercado And Hunter Luepke Are Active Behind Javonte Williams
Javonte Williams is the starter. He signed the first Cowboys extension of the year. Davis had been the No. 2 before the injury.
Emari Demercado is next in line. Dallas claimed him off waivers on Aug. 31, a day after Kansas City released him, and had already cut all three of its internal candidates for the No. 3 job. Demercado spent his first three seasons in Arizona. Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams coached the Cardinals offensive line in 2023 and 2024. Demercado has 126 carries for 819 yards and 3 touchdowns in his career, averaging 6.5 yards per carry, with a long of 71 yards.
Hunter Luepke is the fullback and is also active.
Goodson is one of seven Cowboys inactives. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and safety Malik Hooker are the only two who were ruled out on the injury report.
Dallas is 0-1 after the 28-20 loss to the Giants. Kickoff against Washington is set for 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX.
