RIO DE JANEIRO — The Eagles won in Brazil and then won the Super Bowl, but Dak Prescott does not see that as a template for the Dallas Cowboys. Prescott said Friday that beating the Baltimore Ravens and leaving Rio at 2-1 is all Dallas cares about.
The Philadelphia Eagles opened the 2024 season with a 34-29 win over the Green Bay Packers in São Paulo and then beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. Sunday is Prescott’s first international game, in his 11th season.
Prescott made his feelings about Philadelphia plain and said Dallas would bring the same mindset to Baltimore anywhere.
“Yeah, I mean, we don’t like that team,” Prescott said. “Cool that they came here and they won. Great for them. Cool that they won this game and then won the Super Bowl. It’s about the only thing that I would take in the correlations of that and look forward to. But it’s just about us and the Ravens right now. Simple as that.”
“We’re here to play this game of football,” Prescott continued. “Thankful to do it here in Brazil with new fans in a different country. But we could have done it anywhere. We would have had the same mentality, the same mindset. And like I said, simply to get a win, need to get our second win of the year, two and one before we head back to the States.”
Dak Prescott Calls Rio Trip ‘Strictly Business’
Prescott had steak at Friday’s team lunch but has not made it to a churrascaria. He looked up sights online before the trip and learned after landing that there would be no time for them.
“Yeah, I mean, no, I mean, this is strictly business for us,” Prescott explained. “Obviously it’s just coming to Brazil, trying to look up some places and sites through the internet before I got here, and then realizing when we get here it’s strictly business.”
“It’s definitely a place that I look forward to coming back to and being a full tourist and getting to embrace the culture much different than I am now,” Prescott added. “But right now, only looking for a win.”
The team landed Friday morning after an overnight flight. Prescott felt better once practice got his body moving, and he expects to be fully recovered by Sunday.
“Well, we’ve only slept on the plane the way here, and so tonight looking forward to catching up on not so great sleep on the plane,” Prescott said. “But I rested. I think we did a great job just as a team coming out here, getting our bodies going. I think that helped. I know I felt much better after 15, 20 minutes into the moving part, and so I have no doubt that my body, mind, sleep and everything will be recovered and where I need to be, that I’m ready to go come Sunday.”
Dak Prescott Works On His Portuguese
Prescott knows one word of Portuguese, “partiu,” and he checked his pronunciation with reporters.
“Partiu. That’s the only one. Am I saying it right?” Prescott said. “Partiu? No? Damn, I’m not saying it right. Hey, you can try. I’m not embarrassed to try.”
He has not seen Christ the Redeemer yet, and he was told he may spot it on the drive to Maracanã. Beyond a win, Prescott wants to remember the people he met on the trip.
“Just the people that I come in contact with. I’ll remember this as much as I do anything else,” Prescott said. “But as I said, it’s strictly business. It’s not like we’re getting to sightsee or do much, but definitely going to enjoy the time with my teammates. Having that extended time in the hotel with them, always good memories are made, great connections are made.”
Prescott threw for 279 yards and 4 touchdowns against Washington last Sunday. His 249th career touchdown pass broke Tony Romo’s franchise record. Kickoff is 3:25 p.m. CT on CBS.
