WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. — Dak Prescott left the Dallas Cowboys joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams wanting a couple of throws back. The red-zone work was a different story.
Prescott threw 4 touchdown passes during Tuesday’s red-zone period at the Rams’ facility in Woodland Hills. Two went to CeeDee Lamb, with KaVontae Turpin and Brevyn Spann-Ford catching the other two.
Prescott called it the offense’s strongest period of the afternoon.
“I think that was probably the stronger drill or the stronger period of the day for us, and so that’s good,” Prescott said. “Obviously coming off of the struggles at the end of last year, it’s good to see. Even though we’ve got things in our back pocket that we’re not going to pull out just yet, so most definitely.”
Dallas did not empty the playbook against a Rams team it will see again during the regular season.
The Cowboys visit Los Angeles in Week 15.
Dak Prescott Still Saw Plays To Clean Up
Tuesday was Dallas’ first work against another defense after spending the opening weeks of training camp facing its own personnel.
Prescott said the offense was not where it ultimately needs to be.
“First time going against another jersey, another team, I thought it was good,” Prescott said. “Is it quite where we want it to be? No, not necessarily. But started off hitting the runs, some things were physical, it’s hard to tell exactly what a gain is when guys aren’t going to the ground. But then as it developed, getting into the red zone, even the two-minute… ultimately felt good about it.”
One of the plays Prescott wants back came when he targeted George Pickens and threw an interception.
Prescott did not come away concerned about the connection.
“George is being George,” Prescott explained. “That’s what I expect from him, that’s what he expects from himself. There’s still probably a ball or two that we want to correct one thing or another, make it a completion. I had the one interception throwing it to George there, which can get cleaned up very simply. It’s what I expect from George. He just does great things, and today was another showing of that.”
Pickens caught 93 passes for 1,429 yards and 9 touchdowns last season. He earned Pro Bowl and Second-team All-Pro honors.
Lamb finished 2025 with 75 catches for 1,077 yards and 3 touchdowns in 14 games.
Spann-Ford caught 9 passes for 90 yards and the first touchdown of his NFL career.
Dallas Cowboys Still Have More To Install
Dallas enters the preseason with much of the offensive core intact.
Prescott started all 17 games last season and completed 404 of 600 passes for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Tuesday gave offensive coordinator Klayton Adams an opportunity to call the situational periods against another team. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer moved between the offensive and defensive fields while Adams and defensive coordinator Christian Parker handled their respective sides.
Prescott said Dallas still has portions of its offense it has not shown.
The Cowboys open the preseason Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
