4 Dallas Cowboys Players Miss Practice Before Baltimore Ravens Game

FRISCO, Texas — Four Dallas Cowboys defenders did not practice Wednesday as Dallas opened its week for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Cornerback Cobie Durant (hamstring), safety Malik Hooker (forearm), safety P.J. Locke (foot), and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring) were listed as non-participants on the team’s first injury report of Week 3.

Outside linebacker James Houston was the fifth name on the report. He was listed with a shoulder injury and practiced in full.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said at The Star that Durant would begin on-field rehab Wednesday and that Locke is out of his walking boot. Overshown is “making good progress” with his hamstring strain, Schottenheimer said, but there is a “low probability” he plays against Baltimore.

Cobie Durant And P.J. Locke Hurt In Win Over Washington Commanders

Durant and Locke were both hurt in Sunday’s 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium. Locke went down on a third down during Washington’s opening drive and walked off before he was taken to the locker room. In the final sequence of the first half, with the Commanders driving near the Dallas goal line, Durant strained his hamstring.

Markquese Bell took Locke’s snaps at safety. Second-year cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. replaced Durant.

On Monday, Schottenheimer said both players could miss a few weeks. Dallas had not decided at that point whether to place Locke on injured reserve, which would keep him out at least four games. Schottenheimer also confirmed that Locke’s plantar fascia tear is complete rather than partial.

“That is correct,” Schottenheimer said. “You and I are both learning about doctor stuff. But yeah, they say it’s better. It’s pretty sore for a week. And then it begins to heal much quicker when you tear it fully.”

Durant signed with Dallas this offseason after four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, where he had 141 tackles, 7 interceptions, 26 passes defensed, and 2 defensive touchdowns. Locke signed in March after six seasons with the Denver Broncos.

Malik Hooker And DeMarvion Overshown Still Out From Season Opener

Hooker and Overshown were both hurt in the 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sept. 13 at MetLife Stadium. Hooker fractured his forearm and had surgery two days later. Overshown strained his hamstring after making 7 tackles. Schottenheimer put both players on a one- to two-week timeline the day after the opener, and neither was active against Washington.

On Monday, eight days after the injuries, both were still in the rehab group. Schottenheimer would not rule either one out for Rio.

“Got to get through the week,” Schottenheimer explained. “It could be tough just because it’s a shorter week for us, but I’m not saying no.”

Rookie Jaishawn Barham started at middle linebacker against Washington and wore the green dot, relaying the defensive call from the sideline to the huddle. For that game, Dallas elevated linebackers Curtis Robinson and Justin Barron from the practice squad. Barham had a stinger Sunday, and Dee Winters hurt his shoulder in the second quarter. Both returned to the game, and neither is on Wednesday’s report.

Houston was on last week’s report with the same shoulder injury. He was limited that Wednesday and practiced in full Thursday and Friday. He was still inactive against Washington, and Tyrus Wheat was active for the first time this season.

The Cowboys practice Thursday in Frisco and fly to Rio de Janeiro that night. Kickoff at Maracanã Stadium is 3:25 p.m. CT Sunday on CBS, with Dallas as the designated home team. Both teams are 1-1.
